3 Men's Dress Shirts with Matching Ties - about $45!

I just bought 3 men's dress shirts with ties for $45.  What a steal!  Here's how I did it.

First, log into your ebates.com account to get cash back on your purchase.  If you don't have an eBates account, I suggest you create one.  If you don't want to, that's ok...you can stil get this great deal, you just won't accumulate any cash back.

From ebates.com, select Kohls from the store list.  They are having a sale of Croft & Barrow men's dress shirts for $19.99 and they come with matching ties!  Personally, I think this is the average sale price for a shirt alone, so the tie is a great bonus.

Before you checkout, visit cardpool.com and find an ELECTRONIC gift card worth close to (but not over) the amount you're spending.  For example, I was going to be spending about $50, and the electronic gift card closest to that was $42.52, so I bought that one.  This is an extra step, but it saved me almost $4 on this transaction.  My experience is that you basically get the gift card numbers emailed to you right away.  When you click on "Redeem Now" in the email it will open the Kohl's website with the gift card numbers at the top of the page.  Just copy and paste those into your checkout screen.

You'll also want to take a look at retailmenot.com and find % off coupon codes and free shipping codes.  I found a coupon code for 20% off ($11.99 off the 3 shirts) and another for free shipping with no minimum purchase.  Kohl's allows you to use 2 coupons codes with each transaction.  Woohoo!  Although they are having a special $0.99 per item shipping deal, which is pretty cheap, I still saved about $3 with the free shipping coupon code.

So, at checkout, you will need (1) a credit card (they may require you use your Kohl's charge, depending on which coupon code you selected), (2) your electronic gift card # and pin, and (3) your 2 coupon codes.

Here's how my trasaction went down:
First I paid $39.11 for a $42.52 electronic Kohl's gift card from cardpool.com (a savings of $3.41)
$59.97  (3) shirts to my cart:  $19.99 each x3
-11.99   Minus the $20% coupon code I found on retailmenot.com
-$2.97   Minus the free shipping coupon code from retailmenot.com
-42.52   Minus the above-mention gift card I $39.11 paid for
--------
$5.46 on my Kohl's charge
-1.92 back from eBates.com (it's not much, but anything helps!)

So what could have been a good deal at $62.94, I paid $42.65.  Total savings of $20.29!

My Favorite After-Christmas Deal - Ziploc Bags!

OK, so I don't need any Christmas cards, lights, trees, stockings, or any other decorations...but I went to Walmart to scope out the after-Christmas clearance anyway.  What a deal did I find!  "Holiday" Ziploc bags, 15-ct gallon size and 20-ct quart size (both storage and freezer).  They were originally $2.88, now marked down to $1.13, PLUS I had some $1.50 off 2 coupons and some $1 off 2 coupons.  That means I paid $0.63 a box!  Woohoo!  Get your coupons together and go to your local Walmart and see if they still have some.  Personally, I don't care that the bags have a "To and From" gift tag printed on it - I'll use those all year long anyway!

I also got some Ziploc medium storage containers for the same price and had coupons for those too.  They were a holiday green color (ugly if you ask me) but I'm just storing leftovers in the fridge, so who cares?

I checked Target and didn't see anything there, but let me know if you found something.

I'd love to hear what deals you found!

Super-Successful Monday-Night Shopping Adventure

I went out and made what felt like a bazillion stops - it took me about 2-1/2 hours.  I came home feeling great that I had stocked up on a few items that we use all the time and used up my coupons expiring at the end of the year...I saved alot!  My husband wasn't so impressed..."How much money could you have saved if you didn't buy any of that stuff?" he asks.  What he doesn't realize is that we are going to buy it anyway, so why not use the soupons, stock up, and not have to pay full price later?  Sometimes I think he doesn't get it - is it a guy thing?  Tell me what YOU think....

First stop, Rite-Aid.  I went in to get my 2 Reese's Christmas Trees for FREE.  Great stocking stuffers!
  • One Sale for 2/$1
  • Had Rite-Aid coupon, $1 off 2

Next I stopped in to Market Basket.  Wanted to get stamps, but they were out.  BUT while I was there, I scored 16 boxes of Scotties tissues for $5.
  • On Sale 2/$1.
  • Had (2) manufacturer coupons for $1 off 5 boxes, and
  • 2 manufacturer coupons Buy 2 get 1 free.  Click HERE to print yours.  (Like them on Facebook, then print your coupon twice.)
  • (compare to the price at your local wholesale club - this is a great deal!)

Next I stoped in at CVS.  Got 320 One-A-Day brand name vitamins for $16.96
  • On Sale B1G1 50% off.
  • Got 2 Men's 100ct (1st @ $9.99 and 2nd @ $4.99) and 2 Women's 60ct (1st @ $7.99 and 2nd @ $3.99).
  • Had 2 manufacturer coupons for $5 off 2

Across the street, I stopped in at Walgreens to get my nephew 5 Hot Wheels cars for $0.59 each using the coupon in their flyer.

Next I went to Target to pick up 2 Barbies for $4.99 each!

Lastly, I spent some time at Walmart.  Using coupons, I got $113.90 worth of stuff for $65.40.  I only got 1 item without a coupon.

Lots of retail company's are offering free shipping right now if you spend a minimum amount.  BUT if you're like me, you're not spending $50 or $69 at a time.  If you like Kohl's you can use the following coupon codes and still get you items in time for Christmas - and they have an easy return policy, so no worries!

Be sure to start your shopping trip through ebates.com for cash back. Whatever you're looking for, I'd check clearance first, and after adding the codes to your cart during chechout, make sure all items qualify.

Free Shipping use code  XMASFREE

"Free" AA or AAA Batteries at Staples

Be sure to join Staples Rewards in order to score free (or better than free) batteries!

Go to Staples and buy a 16-pk AA or AAA Duracell Batteries.  Valid on SKU 581672 or 618854 only.  Be sure to show them your Staples Rewards card.  You will pay 12.99 per pack (limit 2).  Later you will gett 100% of that back in Staples Rewards, at which time you might be able to score the same deal without paying for it, if they are having the deal again and you use your rewards to pay for it.

Make this deal even better by using 2 $1 off Duracell coupons found in your Sunday paper.  That way, you actually MAKE money on this deal!  You'll likely need these to go with battery--operated gifts anyway.

"As Seen on TV" Deals at at a Surprising Store!

You've got to admit.  There's something "As Seen on TV" that you think would be perfect for you or someone you love.  The first problem is, you know you're taking a risk buying it and don't want to pay full price.  The second problem is that they are usually sold everywhere for the same price, and usually don't go on sale.  Walmart generally can be cheaper for many things, but their prices for the "As Seen on TV" items are, from what I've noticed, the same as everyone else.

So how can we save money here?  I haven't seen too many coupons for these types of items (I actually have seen coupons before, but they are rare).  The best idea I came up with was Bed, Bath, and Beyond.  Although most of their merchandise is expensive for my taste, these "As Seen on TV" items are priced about the same as anywhere else.  The great thing about this store is that you can easily come across a 20% any regularly-priced item or even $5 off $19 or more.  Since these items rarely go on sale, either of these coupons should work and I got my deal a few weeks ago...a $19.99 item with $5 off.  They have lots of these odds and ends that are great for gifts, even if you wouldn't think this was the store to find it in.

Let me know if you can think of another store that offers general coupons like this scenario that we can use toward "As Seen on TV" items.  I have noticed knock-offs of these items at Christmas Tree Shops for a lower price, but if you want the real thing, this is the way to go.

P.S.  If you're looking for a Snuggie, the best deal I found was at Five Below for $5.  And although the selction is limited, it's the real thing.   And you don't have to pay shipping and handling!

Gift Card Bonuses for the Holiday Season

This time of year many restaurants are offering bonuses to your gift card purchases.  Buy $25 and get a bonus $5 gift card for yourself, for instance.  Even with all the money we're spending on gifts this time of year, why not take advantage of these bonuses for yourself?  Buy a gift card to a reastaurant you regularly visit and get the bonus that comes with it.  Then save it for next time you go there.  It's like giving a gift to yourself.

I know of the following restaurants offering bonuses.  If you know of others, leave a comment so we can share ideas.  Thanks!
T-Bones (Get $1 bonus for every $5 gift certificate you buy - no limit!)
Chili's (Save 10% when you buy $100 or more)
Smokey Bones (Buy $50 in gift cards, receive $10 for yourelf.  See store for details.  Valid through 12/24/2011)
Weathervane Seafood Restarant  (I don't see that they are offering anything at the moment, but occassionally they offer 20% off!)

10% off Valentino's Gift Certificates

For those of you living in and around Hudson/Nashua NH area, Valentino's Restaurant in Hudson, NH is offering 10% off gift cartificates until 12/31/2011.  Buy one as a gift or for yourself to use throughout the year.

$4 off Sweaters at Target, too!

While you're at Target.com Coupon Page, be sure to print the $4 off Women's Sweater and so see what you can find...even works on clearance items!  Coupon expires on 12/24/2011, so I'm waiting to see what goes on sale next week.

Click HERE to get to the coupon page fast!

$7 Woman's Pajamas Sets (Top and Bottom) at Target!

Please tell me you've already done this - either for yourself or as a gift...

Click HERE to get to the Target coupons page for apparel & accessories.  Find the "$3 off Woman's sleepwear item" and click on it to select it, then click "Print Selected Coupons".  You can go back and print it twice.

Target currently has Gilligan & O'Malley 2-pc sleepwear sets on sale for $10 (normally $17.99).  With the $3 off you can get it (top and bottom together) for $7!  That is a great savings!  That is better than anything I found on clearance at my store, but by all means, if you print 2 of this coupon, you might find top and bottom separates and can use both coupons...let me know how you make out.  There were at least 5 colors to choose from in my store. I ended up with 4 of the 5 colors.

Coupon expires 12/24/2011.

Save When Giving Gift Cards this Season and All Year Round!

If you plan to give gift cards this holiday, there's still time to shop for discounted gift cards.  Visit the following websites to see what's available and to order:

cardpool.com
plasticjungle.com
giftcards.com

Remember, many times these come to you as merchadise credit, so they may not be pretty enough for gifts (although I've taken them to the stores and used them to buy new gift cards at times) and the physical cards generally take 7-10 days before your received them (although in many cases I get them much sooner) so give yourself some time.

If you will be ordering something online, you may find an electronic gift card for the retailer you are ordering from...the websites usually ask that you allow 24 hours to recievd the electronic gift cards, but my experience, at least with cardpool.com, is that I receive the electronic gift card within an hour.

Remember that you can go through ebates.com when you order from plasticjungle.com and you will receive a % back from your order.  I usually go through ebates.com to order my gift card via plasticjungle.com, then go back through ebates.com to order the actual item (and use my gift card to pay).  You will get a % back in both instances.

Unfortunately, cardpool.com does not work through ebates.  As a side note, I have not personally used giftcards.com.

Haven't joined Groupon yet?

Now is the right time to join Groupon!  I've used it several times to buy gifts or to get tickets, restaurant discounts, etc.  You'll get 50-90% savings by buying through Groupon.  Bowling, Food, Movies, Massages, Hotels, and so much more!

What is Groupon and how does it work?
Groupon negotiates huge discounts—usually 50-90% off—with popular businesses. We send the deals to thousands of subscribers in our free daily email, and we send the businesses a ton of new customers. That's the Groupon magic.

All you have to do is
(1) Check your email, Facebook or Twitter feeds for daily deals on cool local businesses.
(2) Groupons are more fun when used with friends. Pass along deals by email or broadcast them to your social networks.  This is optional, but you're rewarded if someone joins and buys a deal.
(3) Print the voucher or bring it up on your mobile device, then present it at the business to get your deal.

It's THAT easy!

Another sure way to get coupons...

Another great way to get good coupons is to sign up for free samples.  I just got my sample box of Frosted Mini-Wheats (with a touch of fruit) from Vocalpoint.com and it included a B1G1 coupon and a few dollar off coupons to give to my "friends".  I think I'll wait and see if the cereal goes on sale before the coupon expires, and if not, I'll at least use the B1G1 coupon...my daughter and I both liked the cereal, and I'm sure my husband would too.

Then I thought back to several of the free samples I've recieved in the mail recently, and I think they ALL had coupons.  I must say, the coupons that come with the Vocalpoint samples are the best, though.

Food for Thought...

So I recently found out that Shaw's doubles coupons...correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe they are the only store in our area that doubles coupons.  At first I thought, "Wow!  What a great find!"  After all, I watch "Extreme Couponing" and most of those people get the deals they get because their store doubles coupons.

Then it occurred to me.  I do my groceries at Market Basket because they are the least expensive store around.  Then I played a scenario in my head:

I have a buy 3 and get 60 cents off coupon
I buy 3 at Market Basket for 99 cents each and use my coupon OR
I buy 3 at Shaw's for $1.29 each and use my 60 cent coupon that doubles...

Market Basket final price:  $2.37
Shaw's final price:  $2.67

Since their prices are generally higher, it's not worth going to Shaw's...unless they're having a GREAT sale.

...even then, MOST of my coupons are $1 off something.  They will only double coupons up to 99 cents.  So for the couple of coupons that double, is it worth driving across the river and out of my way instead of just going down the street?  No.  The savings would not make it up to me.

What about shopping for items that have double coupons at Shaw's and get the rest at Market Basket?  I have 2 kids and to cart them around to a million different stores is DEFINATELY NOT worth it.

What are your thoughts on this?

Get MORE coupons!

OK, if you're like me, I'm not just about to buy 5 Sunday papers or go dumpster diving for coupons.  But you CAN get more coupons by taking about 2 minutes to contact your favorite companies and letting them know what you like about their product...not all, but many companies will reward their "loyal customers" with coupons.  Here are a few I've recently tried:
Huggies
Barber Foods (they have great frozen chicken cordon bleu)
Bush's Baked Beans

...and there are many more suggestions on LivingRichWithCoupons.com.  I have tried some others on this list who have not sent coupons, but all youn lose is a couple minutes of your time.  I've also found that compliments works better than complaints.  Although I did contact Duncan Hines with a complaint via phone and they sent me a coupon for a free box of brownies.  Good Luck!

Almost Free Frank's Red Hot Sauce!

Click HERE to print your coupon (Be sure to print it twice so you can get 2 coupons.) for Frank's Red Hot Sauce, then head over to Market Basket.  They had 2 bottles shrink-wrapped together (one thick style and one regular) priced at 2 for $3.00 (it didn't ring up right, but I verified that the price on the shelf tag was correct). So I bought 2 double-packs for $3, then used 2 of my $1 off coupons.  Ultimately I got 4 bottles for $25 each! Woohoo!

Lots of FREE (or close to free) Revlon Beauty Tools at Target

Click HERE to get your coupon (print it twice) for $2 off a Revlon Beauty Tool, then go to Target.

I bought 2 nail clippers for $2.24 each, then the register printed out 2 more coupons...$5 off 2 Revlon Beauty Tools, and $2 off one Revlon Beauty Tool.  So, I went back into the store and got more.  Seriously - I bought 10 tools (a $22.73 value) for $1.73 total (over 2 transactions).  You could even get them ALL for free, if you get the ones that are under $2 each, but last time I tried to do that, they had to call a manager over and it turned into an ordeal because the coupon was worth more than the item., blah, blah, blah.

Anyway, it was a GREAT deal.  You need ove for your home, pocket book, travel bag, you name it!  Finger nail clippers, Toenail clippers, nail files, eyelash curler, etc.  Just watch the price on the shelf so you don't get ot the register to find out you grabbed a $7 or $10 tool.  Since the register coupons keep printing, you could keep getting free tools all day.  Ha ha.  Lucky for me, the last time I went to the register the cashier forgot to give me the coupons.  I could have reminded her, but I decided I had enough.  I think she saved me.

Oh - and while you're there, be sure to bring your $1 off Circo accessory item coupon (print it twice) and get 2 pairs of baby/toddler socks free!

This week Rite Aid has Johnson & Johnson baby products (baby wash, shampoo, lotion, and Desitin) on sale for $2.99.  Bring your coupons and you will pay $1.99 each.  This turns out to be average, but then you will recieve $1 +UP Reward for each one (limit3), so it's like paying $0.99 each, which is a great price!

You can find Johnson & Johnson product coupons HERE.  Click on each product and you will see a new coupon to print.  Generally you can print 2 of each.

As always, be sure to ask for a raincheck if they don't have any on the shelves.  They will usually work the +UP Reward into the raincheck price, too!

Addition to the Staples Deals if youi're Making the Trip

Lysol Products at Rite Aid (week of 3/27)

Right now, Rite Aid has a "sale" going on for Lysol products.  I say "sale" because they are 2/$5 and I can't say that is a great price, but adding in all the other savings just might make it worth buying - unfortunately, they make it extremely complicated:

Buy 6 Lysol products (any combination) $15 total
-All Purpose Cleaner (40oz or trigger 32oz)
-Bathroom and Bowl Cleaner (24oz)
-Kitchen Cleaner (22oz)
-Neutra Air Fabric Mist (17oz)
Use 3 Lysol coupons (most are $1 off 2 products) (new total, $12)
-you can find the coupons on Lysol's website, HERE (click "Special Offers" at the to, right-hand side of the page ~ you'll need to register if you haven't already)
Before you shop, check Rite Aid's website for Video Values coupons (possible new total $10)
-
Right now there is 1 Lysol Product coupon for $1 if you haven't used it yet
-There's also a "Rite Aid" coupon for watching a video about the Wellness Program $1 if you haven't used it yet
So you'll pay $10 out of pocket...THEN:*You'll get a $5 +UP Reward to use on your next purchase, AND
*If you buy before 3/29 (HURRY!) there are 2 Lysol Single Check Rebate for $1 each you can request online.

Ultimately, it's like paying $3 for 6 products = $0.50 each!
GREAT DEAL
As always, if they don't have the items in stock, ask about getting a raincheck and how they can incorporate the +UP Rewards into the Raincheck Price.

Cheap Johnson & Johnson Baby Products at Rite Aid this week!

Rite Aid has Johnson & Johnson Baby Products (baby wash, shampoo, lotion, etc) on sale this week for $2.99 with your Up Wellness Card (limit 3).  For each one you purchase, you will get a $1 +Up Reward, good towards your next purchase of anything in the store.  If you go to the Johnson & Johnson website (offers page) you can print coupons for these same products.

Sample Scenario:
3 Johnson & Johnson Baby Care Products 14-15oz  $2.99 = $8.97
Minus $1 coupon each product ($8.97-$3 = $5.97 out of pocket cost)
Recive 3 $1 +Up Rewards to use on your next purchase
It's like paying $0.99 each!

If they don't have the products when you go in, be sure to ask for a rain check!  As long as you show them your coupons for the products and they staple them to the rain check, they will accept it when you buy the product later, even if they are expired by then.

Different Way to Save - Discounted Gifts Cards

Do you know about buying discounted gift cards?  When someone recieves a gift card or store credit and don't plan on using it, they might sell it to make a few dollars off of it instead.  As a buyer, YOU benefit by saving a little extra on your purchases.

As an example, for a $50 gift card you might pay $45. It's not a huge savings, but it's worth it if you know you will be going to a particular restaurant or store anyway, and is especially great if paired with a coupon. I'll put it this way - I ended up with a 30% off coupon for Old Navy recently (the "Give and Get" promotion good through March 24th) - I like to shop the clearance there. So, I went to plasticjungle.com and ordered a $25 gift card for $22, free shipping. I like to think of it as an extra $3 off coupon. That, on top of clearance prices and my 30% off coupon...I got some decent deals on clothes for the kids for next season!

I also planned a mini-weekend-away and was able to get a gift card for the hotel I will be staying at and am now looking into restaurants that might be in the area or other activities (movie theatre, bowling alley) to make the vacation a little more financially worry-free.

Beware - if you are buying a gift card on this website to give as a gift to someone else, the website may not be able to tell you what the "theme" of the card is, so keep that in mind.

Oh - as a side note, plasticjungle.com also has a notification service, so you enter the cards you're looking for (restaurants and stores you frequent, perhaps) and they will send you a daily email letting you know if they have cards available for that establishment.

Happy discounting!

*Although I am not particularly promting plasticjungle.com, I have used them and found them to be reputable.  Also, some other "discounted gift card websites" I stumbled upon lead you directly to plasticjungle.com, so why not go directly to the source?

Extreme Couponing

A couple of "extreme" shopping trips over the last month or so has got me thinking about blogging again...

On March 1st at Rite Aid I got:

7 bottles of Johnson & Johnson baby bath wash (15 oz bottles)

2 bottles of Johnson & Johnson baby shampoo (15 oz bottles)

1 bottle of Johnson & Johnson baby lotion (15 oz bottle)

4 tubes of Desitin (4 oz each)

2 Dove deorderants

4 Nivea lip balm

...and I paid $0.37 out of pocket!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
THEN, on March 11th I went to Walgreens and CVS and I got:
2 (42 ct) Cottonelle flushable wipes
1 (84 ct) Cottonelle flushable wipes
1 Old Spice deoderant
1 Old Spice Body Wash
2 SoftSoap Body Wash
1 Excedrin PM (20 ct)
1 Excedrin Migraine (50 ct)
2 Excedrin Exrea Strength (20 ct each)
4 Dove +Men Deoderant
I paid $10.46 out of pocket (amazing deal - that averages out to less than $0.75 per item) and went home with $17 worth of store credit ($7 Walgreens Register Rewards and $10 CVS Extra Care Bucks) to use on anything in the store on my next shopping trip! They basically PAID ME to buy this stuff!
I hope to be posting things here and there, although I cannot commit myself 100% just yet, being so busy with the kids...but if you follow my blog, you will get insight to some great deals!
Happy couponing!
